Set aside tax when the payment lands

Freelance income rarely arrives in a neat monthly paycheck. When a large invoice clears, it is easy to treat the whole deposit as spendable cash - then scramble at tax time.

A practical habit is to earmark a percentage of each paid invoice for taxes. Omonido can post that set-aside into a local tax reserve when you mark work paid. This is an organizational aid, not tax, legal, or accounting advice.

Why freelancers under-save

Variable income, late clients, and mixed personal/business accounts blur what is safe to spend. Without a rule, people often save only what is left at month end - which is often nothing.

Setting a percentage aside at the moment of payment separates "operating cash" from "tax cash" before lifestyle spending catches up.

How Omonido posts the set-aside

In Settings, choose a set-aside percent (for example 25%). When you mark an invoice paid and save, the studio posts client income to the ledger and a tax reserve transfer for that percent of the paid amount.

Cash flow then shows your tax reserve balance next to AR and monthly surplus, so you can see restricted vs usable cash at a glance.

Picking a percentage

There is no universal correct rate. Self-employment tax, income brackets, deductions, quarterly estimates, and your country or province all matter. Many freelancers start with a conservative placeholder and adjust after talking to a professional.

Omonido will not choose the rate for you. It applies the number you set so the habit is automatic once you decide.

Limits of the tool

The reserve is a bucket in your local ledger - not a separate bank account transfer unless you move money yourself. It does not file returns, calculate deductions, or replace bookkeeping software if you need that depth.

Always confirm obligations with a qualified tax professional who knows your situation. See the Disclaimer for more.

FAQ

Does Omonido file taxes for me?
No. It only helps you track a local tax reserve balance based on the percent you choose.
Can I change the set-aside percent?
Yes. Update it anytime in Settings. New paid invoice syncs use the current percent.
What if I already moved money to a tax savings account?
Treat the in-app reserve as a tracker. You can still transfer cash at your bank to match the balance you want to protect.
Is this tax advice?
No. Figures are estimates from data you enter. Read the Disclaimer before making money decisions.
